"It is hard to believe that a year has passed since Ian's death. I will always remember his huge smile and quirky laugh. I hope Carol, that you and your girls are doing ok."

Ian (Robert) Jessome As Ian Jessome would say, "Love comes in two forms: smiles and tears." With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Ian Jessome. Ian passed away November 8, 2010 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer. Ian is survived by the love of his life for 27 years, Carol Jessome (Reashor) and his two daughters Danielle and Krystal. Ian is survived by his brothers and sisters Barbara, Wayne (Cindy), Darrell, Earl, Shaun (Shelley), Tena Marie (Dave), Angeline (Lawrence) and Brad. Besides his parents Christena and Stephen Francis Jessome; Ian was predeceased by sisters, Patrice and Pamela. After leaving his hometown of Florence, Nova Scotia, he started his new life in Fort McMurray at the age of seventeen. He made a name for himself working within the oilsands construction industry for 27 years. "Married" to his job, but kept in line by his wife, Ian was constantly on-call and gave many their start in the oilsands industry. The family would like to recognize the many notes of appreciation received from across the country since Ian's passing. Ian lived life gauged not by stature, nor size - he may not have been a large man but he was a man whose spirit was larger than life. Like his grandfather, Ian was a magnet to all kids, delighting in the fun and energy they brought to him and he to them, as he was a big kid himself. In any crowd his laugh was contagious. He was known for never hiding an ounce of his personality, whether that was words of wisdom or his not so subtle nudge to get a rise out of people. In either way it was never meant with malice or anything but the best intent. A celebration of Ian's life will be held at St. John's Church, 5 Hospital Street, Fort McMurray, on Friday, November 19th, 2010 at 10:00 am. A reception will follow in the basement of the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Road NE, Calgary AB, T2E 2P5.
